Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the president, has stated that he is not “expecting any recognition” from Nigerians following the conclusion of his administration.

In an interview with NTA that was broadcast in January 2022, he said this.

Buhari did, however, say that he would adore being remembered as a leader who gave his all.

After leaving government

He said;

“I’ve served as a governor, a minister, and as president for the past two tenures. What else can I do for this country now that I’ve navigated all the systems?

“I’ve done my best, and I hope Nigerians will think once I depart. I don’t anticipate much praise, but I do anticipate Nigerians to acknowledge that the man did his best. That is what I anticipate of Nigerians.”

Buhari also bemoaned the pressure of holding the office of president, saying it was “telling” on him as he got older.

About my age, I notice my coworkers are now taking a break, and I guarantee you that I look forward to the upcoming 17 months when I too will be less busy.

“The age is showing on me; working today for six, seven, or eight hours every day in the office is no joke; nearly every week, there are executive council issues and letters from as many states as possible to be reviewed. It’s really a lot of work, but as I’ve stated, I asked for it, so I can’t really gripe.
