On a busy Midtown Manhattan street, five people brutally attacked a New York City cab driver in a frightening occurrence. On July 19, the event happened and was caught on video. Social media users are currently discussing the footage and criticizing the actions of the five attackers. According to the New York Post, the 60-year-old cab driver is repeatedly attacked in the horrifying video by three women and two men who use their shoes and fists to pound him near the junction of Sixth Avenue and W 34th Street.

Observe the video:

The driver dodged their strikes and reached for something on the ground, but the unrelenting assault persisted. As seen in the video, one of the women proceeded to kick and punch him as he lost his balance and fell against the side of his taxi.

The cab driver attempts to cover his head with his hands during the incident, and others remain silent.

As the clip comes to a close, one of the males eventually drags the woman away.

The driver was taken by ambulance to New York University Hospital after the incident, where he was believed to be in stable condition, according to the Post’s story.

The cab driver and the victims got into a fight, according to the police, before the severe beating occurred.

After an argument

Two suspects, 35-year-old Howard Colley and 51-year-old Natalie Morgan, both from Brooklyn, were detained by police at the site. According to the publication, Colley is charged with assault for allegedly punching the can driver in the face, and Morgan is charged with criminal mischief for reportedly breaking the cab’s right side view mirror.

Justice was requested for the driver by the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers (NYSFTD). “We need to find these young criminals and make sure they face charges. This savage thrashing of the elderly motorist was not justified. Attacks, stabbings, shootings, and robberies must end, according to NYSFTD spokesperson Fernando Mateo.

Mateo also brought up an earlier tragic occurrence involving the murder of 52-year-old Kutin Gyimah, a different New York cab driver, in Queens. On August 18, 2022, a mob of youths beat Gyimah to death in Far Rockaway.

The brutal assault was denounced by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission as well, emphasizing that it is completely inappropriate and against the law to use violence against hard-working drivers. The victim is receiving active assistance from their driver support unit.

The assault is still under investigation by the police.
