According to Minister, Egypt has the 14th-highest population in the world
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Despite a reduction in fertility rates, Egypt’s population is currently anticipated to be 105 million, placing it 14th in the world in terms of population size, according to Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on Sunday.
During a news briefing on the International briefing on Population and Development (ICPD), which Egypt will host from September 5 to 8, the minister made the comments.
The fertility rate decreased from 3.5 to 2.8 children per woman in 2014, the minister noted. The annual birth rate is still high at 2.1 million, contributing to Egypt’s record-high population of 105 million.
Ghaffar asserts that the Egyptian government is willing to guarantee its residents a fair standard of living, stating that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was interested in finding a solution to the overpopulation problem as it was a barrier to achieving the required development.
The International Conference on Population and Development, he said, will give researchers and decision-makers the chance to explore the dynamic relationship between population, health, and development. He added that decision-makers at both the regional and international levels, as well as representatives of European institutions, businesspeople, and pharmaceutical companies, will attend the event.
However, he pointed out that the meeting will also mark the introduction of Egypt’s National Population Strategy.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had earlier declared in June that the country’s development efforts had been greatly hampered by the population growth.
In the days of the late President Anwar Sadat, there were 40 million people, then 80 million in 2011, and now there are 105 million, according to al-Sisi.
