The youth wing of the Igbo main socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has sent a strong warning to leaders in the South East who are impeding the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on leaders to support Kanu’s release, highlighting that the Nigerian government’s prosecution of him is a collective trial of the Igbo identity.

The organization affirmed that Nigeria could not attain equality, justice, and fairness without addressing the matter and praised federal lawmaker Obi Aguocha for organizing over 50 members of the Federal House of Representatives to appeal to President Bola Tinubu for Kanu’s release.

This was said in a statement released on Wednesday by the Ohanaeze youths, which Chika Art Adiele, the national publicity secretary, signed.

The statement said, in part,

“It is heartwarming and great joy to Igbo youths to receive a cheering news from the distinguished member of the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha (Ikwuano, Umuahia North/South federal constituency) who is mobilising over 50 very distinguished patriotic members of the federal house of representatives to make an appeal to Mr President, Bola Tinubu to release our dear brother and son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu .

“Igbo youths are highly elated over the audacious move by Hon Aguocha in leading his colleagues to appealing to Mr President to set free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for equity, justice and fairness.

“In same vein; the youths organisation cautions other Southeast leaders for their uncooperative disposition towards the release of our son. They should remember that it is our collective identity that is on trial.

“It is imperative to remind them that silence in the face of injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere and as a people, we are taking notes and hopefully posterity will bear witness to our collective quest to bringing lasting peace, development and sustainable security in Ala Igbo.”
