Breaking: Egbetokun DIG, 23 other CPs, and Frank Mba promoted to Police AIG level

Police Commissioner Frank Mba and 23 other individuals have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The nomination of Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7 as a Deputy Inspector General of Police, was also accepted (DIG).

The new DIG will represent the nation’s South-West geopolitical region.

DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, who retired on March 15, 2023, would be replaced by DIG Egbetokun.

In a press release issued late on March 28 in Abuja, the PSC’s head of press and public relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said the Commission had also approved the promotion of 24 commissioners of police (CPs) to the next rank of assistant inspector general (AIG), just as 33 deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of commissioner (CP).

The promotion of 61 Inspectors of Police to ASP, 118 Chief Superintendents of Police to ACP, 316 Superintendents of Police to CSP, eight Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents, and 37 Assistant Commissioners of Police to DCP was also authorized by the Commission.

Ani stated that the appointments and promotions were some of the highlights of the PSC’s 19th plenary meeting, which took place in Abuja on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, and was presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, acting chairman of the commission (retd).

The spokesperson stated that the confirmation and elevation of 4,449 ASPs.11 to ASP 1 was also taken into consideration and approved by the PSC.

The Commission also authorized the elevation of additional senior Police Officers for outstanding performance and praise from community leaders.

He listed the CPs promoted to rank of AIG to include: former CP Force Education, Rabi Umar; acting AIG Police Mobile Force, Mathew Akinyosola; acting AIG Zone 6, Calabar, Jonathan Towuru; acting AIG Zone 2, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi; acting AIG Zone 11 Osogbo, Akande Sikiru Kayode; Abimbola Adebola Shokoya; Christopher Adetokunbo Owolabi; and ,CP Workshop, Yusuf Chiromawa Usman.

Others include CP Force Headquarters, Aliyu Garba, CP Force Headquarters, Idris Dabban Dauda, CP Admin, Operations, DIG Operations, and CP Eastern Ports, Calabar, Olofu Tony Adejoh.

The DCP include; Mohammed Bunu; Zubairu Abubakar; Fom Pam Joseph; Emuobo Fred Ekokotu; Garba Musa Yusuf; Fasuba Akinyele Olabode; Uzuegbu Kanayo; Garba Ahmed; Nemi Edwin Osigoboko Iwo; Hayatu Kaigama Ali; Nwonyi Policarp Emeka; Salman Dogo Garba; Musibau Omolabi Ajani; and Dungus Ali Munguno among others.

He said that in order for the CPs and DCPs to be considered for promotion, they had to show up for an interactive/promotion interview.

The spokesperson said that Justice Ogunbiyi, the interim chairman of the commission, urged the newly promoted officials to recommit themselves to serving the country.

She promised that the commission would keep making sure that promotions within the Police Department were frequent and motivating in order to raise the officers’ productivity and effectiveness.
