Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, has expressed concern about the widespread corruption in Nigeria’s voting system.

However, he stressed the critical necessity for Christians to get involved in politics in order to effect change.

The former president made the appeal while giving an address at The Gospel Faith Mission International’s (GOFAMINT) 57th Annual Convention and 67th Anniversary, both of which were hosted at the Gospel City in Ogunmakin, Ogun State.

The role of the church in nation building at a time like this was the topic of his speech. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo thanked the church for holding the convention smoothly and exhorted Christians to stand out as lights of righteousness in the political sphere. Although politics shouldn’t necessarily be corrupt, he regretted that its reputation has been tarnished by those who engage in it.

Chief Obasanjo emphasized the difficulties the country was facing, such as insecurity, pessimism, poverty, and depression, and he urged the Church to act as a force for good by referring to its function as the “salt of the world” to effect significant change.

Despite being in the world, we are not a part of it. Corrupting corruption has a significant impact. We are the world’s light, he declared on Saturday.

“You cannot hide a city built on a hill. We should emulate Jesus, who did not identify with the world while He was on earth.

The former president emphasized the significance of the church clamoring for justice, fairness, and equity in all spheres of American society, including social, political, and economic life.

He compared the church to salt, saying that just as food would taste bland without it, so too would a church that is unable to carry out its mission.

“Life is not always a bed of roses. Christ had warned us that there would be trials and difficulties so that we should be ready and, like him, we would triumph in the end.

Obasanjo continued, “The church must be separate and set itself apart from the balance of the world.

In a previous speech, Pastor (Dr) E. O. Abina, the General-Overseer of GOFAMINT, described a meeting he had with Obasanjo when he was president.

He disclosed that the former president was observed instructing Sunday school while on a visit to the Aso Rock Chapel in Abuja.

This realization, he said, revealed Obasanjo’s steadfast dedication to spiritual development and his commitment to preaching God’s Word.
