Hospital operations were suspended on Monday as a result of the non-implementation of the 2009 Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and hazard allowance, which prompted employees at several government-owned hospitals in Kaduna State to go on a five-day warning strike.

The Nigerian Association of Laboratory Scientists, the Association of Hospital Administrative Pharmacists, Kaduna State Chapter, and the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) started the industrial action.

At the Sabo General Hospital in Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area, as well as the Gwamna Awan General Hospital in Kaduna and the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, there was strict observance of the strike.

In contrast to the prior week, when employees were proactive in their tasks, multiple patients on Monday noticed the absence of nurses.

When a nurse from one of the government hospitals finally showed up, she told the patients that because of the strike, she was giving them their last prescription.

The government is being demanded by the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives, Kaduna State Chapter, for their 2009 CONHESS and 2022 hazard allowance.

In spite of assurances and a committee assessment, medical workers have not received their 2009 CONHESS balance as of yet.

The government has not complied with its promise to pay half of the hazard allowance in 2023 and the remaining half in 2024.

The healthcare workers are ready to go on strike if their demands are not met and are hoping that Governor Uba Sani would give them what they want.
