Nigerian-American Innocent Tino has sparked controversy on the internet by asserting that Rema, a rising star in the Nigerian music scene, owes him for using the term “ozeba” in one of his well-known songs.

On July 11, Rema’s outstanding tune from her 11-track sophomore album “HEIS” was released.

To express his annoyance, innocent Tino took to social media, saying that he popularized the phrase “ozeba” long before Rema did in his songs.

He says that since he began using “Ozeba” on his social media profiles approximately four years ago, his followers have adopted it as a catchphrase.

Although Tino acknowledges that the word “Ozeba” is a Benin word meaning “trouble,” he feels that his use of the phrase elevated it to a prominent position.

To quote him:

“Rema need to pay me. I was the one who started using ‘Ozeba’ as gist on social media.. though a Benin word for ‘trouble’… but I made it popular on my page like 4 years ago till date and now Rema used am blow for song …my old followers will attest to it. …I will say ‘this na better Ozeba.’”
